Cette journ\u00e9e des travailleurs fut institu\u00e9e au&nbsp;1<sup>er<\/sup>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pluvi%C3%B4se\">pluvi\u00f4se<\/a>&nbsp;(20 janvier) par&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louis_Antoine_de_Saint-Just\">Saint-Just<\/a>, et fut c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9e pendant quelques ann\u00e9es<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%AAte_du_Travail#cite_note-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1867, au&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Familist%C3%A8re_de_Guise\">familist\u00e8re Godin de Guise<\/a>&nbsp;na\u00eet une f\u00eate du Travail<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%AAte_du_Travail#cite_note-6\">[6]<\/a><\/sup>, alors que&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jean-Baptiste_Andr%C3%A9_Godin\">Jean-Baptiste Andr\u00e9 Godin<\/a>&nbsp;venait tout juste d&rsquo;achever la r\u00e9daction de&nbsp;<em>Solutions sociales<\/em>. La date de la manifestation est fix\u00e9e au 5 juin&nbsp;; elle est toujours c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9e aujourd&rsquo;hui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La premi\u00e8re proposition de&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labor_Day\">Labor Day<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;serait due, selon le&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/D%C3%A9partement_du_Travail_des_%C3%89tats-Unis\">d\u00e9partement du Travail des \u00c9tats-Unis<\/a>, \u00e0&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_J._McGuire\">Peter J. McGuire<\/a>, secr\u00e9taire g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la Confr\u00e9rie des charpentiers et des menuisiers avec l&rsquo;aide d&rsquo;un cofondateur de la&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%A9d%C3%A9ration_am%C3%A9ricaine_du_travail\">F\u00e9d\u00e9ration am\u00e9ricaine du travail<\/a>&nbsp;(<em>American Federation of Labor<\/em>&nbsp;ou AFL), afin d&rsquo;honorer \u00ab&nbsp;Ceux qui de la nature brute ont taill\u00e9 et ouvrag\u00e9 toute la splendeur que nous contemplons.&nbsp;\u00bb<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%AAte_du_Travail#cite_note-7\">[7]<\/a><\/sup>. Les ouvriers new-yorkais manifest\u00e8rent pour la premi\u00e8re fois le mardi 5 septembre 1882. De l&rsquo;h\u00f4tel de ville \u00e0 la place des syndicats, 10&nbsp;000&nbsp;ouvriers march\u00e8rent, inaugurant le tout premier d\u00e9fil\u00e9 de la f\u00eate du Travail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"F\u00eate_du_Travail_et_journ\u00e9e_internationale_des_Travailleurs\">F\u00eate du Travail et journ\u00e9e internationale des Travailleurs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Article d\u00e9taill\u00e9&nbsp;:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Journ%C3%A9e_internationale_des_travailleurs\">Journ\u00e9e internationale des travailleurs<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La f\u00eate internationale telle qu&rsquo;elle est c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9e de nos jours tire son origine des combats du mouvement ouvrier pour obtenir la&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Journ%C3%A9e_de_huit_heures\">journ\u00e9e de huit heures<\/a>, \u00e0 la fin du&nbsp;XIX<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%AAte_du_Travail#cite_note-Ferrand-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aux&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C3%89tats-Unis\">\u00c9tats-Unis<\/a>, au cours de leur congr\u00e8s de 1884, les&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Syndicat_professionnel\">syndicats<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C3%89tats-Unis\">am\u00e9ricains<\/a>&nbsp;se donnent deux ans pour imposer aux patrons une limitation de la journ\u00e9e de travail \u00e0 huit heures. Ils choisissent de lancer leur action le&nbsp;1<sup>er<\/sup>&nbsp;mai, date du&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moving_day\">moving day<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;parce que beaucoup d\u2019entreprises am\u00e9ricaines entament ce jour-l\u00e0 leur ann\u00e9e comptable, et que les contrats ont leur terme ce jour-l\u00e0, l&rsquo;ouvrier devant d\u00e9m\u00e9nager (d&rsquo;o\u00f9 le terme de&nbsp;<em>moving day<\/em>) pour retrouver du travail. La gr\u00e8ve g\u00e9n\u00e9rale du&nbsp;1<sup>er<\/sup>&nbsp;mai 1886, impuls\u00e9e par les anarchistes, est largement suivie<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%AAte_du_Travail#cite_note-Baillargon-8\">[8]<\/a><\/sup>. Ils sont environ 340&nbsp;000 dans tout le&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C3%89tats-Unis\">pays<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chicago\">Chicago<\/a>, la gr\u00e8ve se prolonge dans certaines entreprises, et le&nbsp;3 mai 1886, une manifestation fait trois morts parmi les gr\u00e9vistes de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gr%C3%A8ve_des_usines_McCormick\">McCormick<\/a>&nbsp;Harvester. Le lendemain a lieu une marche de protestation et dans la soir\u00e9e, tandis que la manifestation se disperse \u00e0&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Massacre_de_Haymarket_Square\">Haymarket Square<\/a>, il ne reste plus que 200&nbsp;manifestants face \u00e0 autant de policiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C\u2019est alors qu&rsquo;une bombe explose devant les forces de l\u2019ordre. Elle fait un mort dans les rangs de la police. Sept autres policiers sont tu\u00e9s dans la bagarre qui s\u2019ensuit. \u00c0 la suite de cet attentat, cinq syndicalistes&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anarchistes\">anarchistes<\/a>&nbsp;sont condamn\u00e9s \u00e0 mort (<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Albert_Parsons\">Albert Parsons<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adolph_Fischer\">Adolph Fischer<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Engel\">George Engel<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/August_Spies_(anarchiste)\">August Spies<\/a>&nbsp;et&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louis_Lingg\">Louis Lingg<\/a>)&nbsp;; quatre seront pendus le vendredi&nbsp;11 novembre 1887&nbsp;(connu depuis comme&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Friday_(1887)\">Black Friday<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;ou \u00ab&nbsp;vendredi noir&nbsp;\u00bb) malgr\u00e9 l\u2019inexistence de preuves, le dernier (Louis Lingg) s\u2019\u00e9tant suicid\u00e9 dans sa cellule. Trois autres sont condamn\u00e9s \u00e0 perp\u00e9tuit\u00e9. Lors du proc\u00e8s, le procureur Julius Grinnel d\u00e9clare dans sa plaidoirie&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;Nous savons que ces huit hommes ne sont pas plus coupables que les milliers de personnes qui les suivaient, mais ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 choisis parce qu&rsquo;ils sont des meneurs&nbsp;; Messieurs du jury, faites d&rsquo;eux un exemple, faites-les pendre, et vous sauverez nos institutions et notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9.&nbsp;\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>En&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1893_aux_%C3%89tats-Unis\">1893<\/a>, le gouverneur de l&rsquo;Illinois&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Peter_Altgeld\">John Peter Altgeld<\/a>&nbsp;gracie les 3&nbsp;syndicalistes encore d\u00e9tenus, en raison de la fragilit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;enqu\u00eate et du processus judiciaire<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%AAte_du_Travail#cite_note-9\">[9]<\/a><\/sup>. Il accuse \u00e9galement le chef de la police de Chicago d&rsquo;avoir cr\u00e9\u00e9 le violent climat de r\u00e9pression ayant conduit \u00e0 cet attentat<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%AAte_du_Travail#cite_note-10\">[10]<\/a><\/sup>.
